Mr L Bates
C.Eng, M.I.Mech.E

Lyn Bates has enjoyed a 'hands-on' working life in the Engineering Industry, becoming a recognised expert in the design and application of solids handling equipment. He is managing director of Ajax Equipment Ltd, which specialises in the design and manufacture of solids feeding and handling equipment.

He is a member of various technical committees and past chairman of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Bulk Materials Handling Committee. He is the designer of various powder-testing devices, innovative devices for flow, feeding, de-aeration, bin systems, countering segregation and holder of patents relating to hopper flow techniques and continuous mixers. Lyn has introduced state-of-art technology to many aspects of solids handling and processing and has authored more than 100 papers at Conferences and Seminars around the world. He has supervised PhD students in UK and Australia and Referees articles for the Elsevier international Science Journal 'Powder Technology'. He lectures at various Universities and Seminars in UK and abroad and has run in-house Seminars in large contracting and manufacturing companies.

He has published a number of books and guide documents and is director of The British Materials Handling Board. He is a moderator on a Help Forum on the www.bulk-online.com web site and in recognition of his long term special interest and activities in the flow and behaviour of bulk materials in storage, feeding and processing, in 2000 he was presented with the 'I.Mech.E.- Solids Handling Award for: - 'Professional Excellence in Bulk Solids Handling Technology'.
